What is your gut? It’s your intestinal tract, and what goes on there has a huge impact on your overall health and wellness. Gut health dictates how we look and feel daily. It is quite literally the core of good health! An unhealthy gut can contribute to many different diseases including diabetes, obesity, arthritis, autism, cancer, and even depression.

A healthy gut equals a healthy immune system, so what steps can we take to get our guts back into shape and working for our bodies?

  • Cut out the junk.

This means saying goodbye to artificial sweeteners, processed foods, and the ever-so-popular refined sugars. Did you know that sugar leads to overgrowth of bad bacteria in our gut? This can lead to a slew of issues such as inflammation, and damages to our gut lining. It’s tough to go cold turkey, but you’ll find instant relief in getting rid of the fake foods your digestive system doesn’t love.

  • Keep your diet full of healthy fats.

Good fats are vital to gut health, as they coat the stomach and allow for easier digestion and increase the absorption of essential nutrients. And, no, we’re not talking spoonfuls of all natural peanut butter. Think avocados, olive oil, coconut oil, and omega 3’s from fish oil or flax oils. Our bodies LOVE good fats.

  • Take a probiotic.

A daily probiotic supplement will help increase the good bacteria in your gut, boosting your immune system and easing digestive issues. While easily consumed through a supplement, they can also be found in foods such as yogurt, kefir, and Kombucha.

Incorporate some or all of these steps into your daily health routine to see dramatic changes in your gut health and keep your body working for you, not against you!
